Over morning tea Mr. Jason Wood Shadow Minister for Community Safety, Migrant Services, and Multicultural Affairs hosted Leader of opposition Peter Dutton, multicultural communities get-together at Beaconsfield. It was an amalgamation of different cultures and races from across the globe that has made Australia their home.
Communities, as diverse as the Africans, Indians, Chinese, Afghans, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, etc. were well represented and interacted with the two leaders.
Both the leaders addressed the gathering. The main focus of the gathering was to meet with multicultural communities and hear their concerns, and make the communities aware of the upcoming referendum scheduled for the 14th of Oct 2023 concerning the indigenous community.
Peter Dutton has vociferously opposed the referendum to change the constitution and spoke about his reasons for a NO vote as it’s against the interests of the indigenous peoples as well as the whole nation.
Only the time will tell as to how far the message hieas to the electorate and how they react. Indigenous people need a say in the governance but the methodology adopted by the incumbent Labor government is flawed and if the Liberals return to power they would strive to give a bigger say to the indigenous communities said Peter Dutton.
